Charting your way to success requires a business roadmap
When I was in my 20’s fresh out of university … I spent a summer going on random road trips. Back then no one had phones (right?!) and maps required planning. Planning wasn’t the point. We’d get there (wherever there would be) when we got there.
It was fun. We had very few needs, requirements or end goal. That was pure freedom.
As much as I loved that then, the same meandering doesn’t work for me now. Freedom in a business is completely different.
The destination needs to be known and a business roadmap is essential to cut down the length of the journey.
Quite truthfully, the business growth journey is tiring and can be financially draining. And it gets even more exhausting and expensive when we jump from one idea to the next, or one tactic to the next.
Getting clarity about the journey requires a plan
The solution is a business roadmap – a plan that you’ve created with the help of someone else so that it becomes more focused, more clear and less cluttered.
Today I spent an hour in a session with a client helping her steer away from tempting “make money now this way” strategies so she can stay focused on the ones that are natural to her and right in front of her. She has been on a webinar kick, in high learning mode.
High learning mode is great until it causes people to switch-up their strategies regularly without giving the “low-hanging fruit” a chance.
When you trust your strategy, you have to stick it out or it won’t work – at all.
You have to spend months on it in order to see any results.
Find your best mentors
One of the best ways to do this is to find 2-3 mentors, guides or supporters maximum and use their system, their business roadmap. Their system can’t be too rigid – it needs to be flexible enough to allow for your details.
A good business roadmap allows for personalization.
So following just a few people doesn’t mean that you can’t take specialized courses. For example, if you have indicated in your business roadmap that Pinterest is going to be a strong driver of traffic, you might need to get super focused, inexpensive training to get you started.
What it does mean is that you don’t constantly take $2,000 courses that lead you in many different directions.
So maybe it’s time to unsubscribe from some people who are sending you off on directions that you can’t follow right now. You can find them again when you need what they offer.
Get crystal clear on your plan
Find THE business roadmap that helps you cut through the clutter, get more focused and narrows down what you actually need to learn.
Pick the mentors you love and resonate with the most to help you to make your plan. Commit to their process so you can deepen your own knowledge. And if you can get some level of one-on-one support with them, even better. If it’s a good fit that relationship can last a lifetime.
Doesn’t that sound like an awesome way to grow?
