Are you finding it difficult to be in charge?

Who's in charge of you

Running a business can be a lonely experience. Even if you have staff, you are the one that they look to for direction and leadership. Who do you look to for those two essentials?

Who’s scheduling you to take breaks, encouraging you to get home in time to prepare healthy meals and get exercise?

Who’s in charge of you?

For the most part we are harder on ourselves than others so chances are that if you are in charge you aren’t treating yourself half as well as you would treat your employees. And that practice could lead you to being out of business – either burning out and opting out or not having enough clarity to create a compelling product or service offering.

The fun thing about entrepreneurship is that there is ALWAYS a solution and a way to turn your passion into a sustainable, enjoyable, long-term venture. You just may not be keeping yourself in the right mindset to see it. You also may not be in the right mindset to act on a bold and brilliant idea.

There is no way around it. You must have a viable offering that people want and you or your product must be seen and known to do well. The first requires being creativity, introspection and openness. The latter requires confidence, courage and inspiration/vision.

Staying inspired, in service and of value

I can foster their creativity lying beneath the conscious in rapid time. I can suggest new ways to delight the world with their gifts. I can also help them connect to their vision and stay inspired. As much as I do that for them, I can’t do that all the time. Those who are really making it have become masters of sourcing their own energy and ideas and bring those into their workspaces.

This stuff is important for me or I lose my drive, start to make excuses and feel isolated. Right now, what’s working really well for me is connecting directly to people, prioritizing sleep, celebrating down time and getting coaching and peer mentoring. It’s unbelievable what a difference it makes to be in charge of my business and myself.

Here’s what you need to do regularly (if you want momentum to speed up):

  • Re-read your vision, look at your vision board or vocalize it with friends and family 1 time per month
  • Take breaks – at least 1 or 2 days off per week to get the brain working properly again
  • Attend an inspiring event with people (yes, it’s about the people) 2 times per month
  • Unplug – Schedule in 3 hours per week (in smaller chunks) of quiet introspective time, unplugged
  • Find virtual mentors – 2 or 3 who rock your world and read their posts, watch videos, follow on social media etc.
  • Get active 3 times per week – just move, it doesn’t have to be hardcore every time
  • Eat well – 4 nights per week at home, home-cooked high quality food
  • Sleep 7 hours per night minimum

You may be wondering how you will have time to do all this. You do. It just depends on how badly you want this. They aren’t major shifts in normal human activities. What are you willing to give up? Just try it for a month and see how you feel. If you are doing some of these things already, great, then you have less to add. Just remember when you neglect an important piece everything else gets effected. You can do this!
