This is what high performers do differently
It’s been four days since I returned from a high performer conference in San Diego. Going in I thought I’d be pretty happy if I learned a few things. Instead, my whole attitude shifted. It wasn’t as much about learning brand new things like health, mindset and focus it was HOW high performers bring bring it all together to get it done, like no one else.
It busted a myth that I held that said, “the more you put in the more you get out.”
It’s also true that, the quality of what you put in dictates the amount you get out.
I learned:
- You don’t have to be exhausted or feel burnt out while making lots of money.
- Daily focus on health is the foundation of big results.
- Desire and discipline are the only prerequisites, everything else can be learned
- Genuine enthusiasm can make almost anything happen.
I loved this idea of optimization. That by bringing together the most important aspects of our lives and empowering ourselves that we can generate more energy and bigger results without having to produce more. Like that idea?
So this might be a bit of a blue pill or red pill (from the Matrix) moment for you. Are you ready to believe that you can change your entire life’s trajectory by using high performance habits?
If you take the red pill, here’s where to start:
Schedule in the essentials
How much time and energy do you waste because you are tired and run down?
You don’t feel good and intentional and instead of doing something healthy, you settle for distractions i.e. watch Netflix and spend time on your phone.
We all need the basics. The basics are eat healthy, eat less, exercise more frequently (not necessarily epically), take vitamins, sleep enough, meditate a little and enjoy some creative hobbies. Take frequent breaks in your work day – one per hour. All that will give you energy. And it requires structure in the form of good habits that you stick to because you trust they will keep you feeling good.
What that also will get you is the freedom to schedule in your entertainment, hobbies and fun. There is freedom in structure … and productivity gained simply by having higher energy.
Learn the skills you need
What skills do you need to learn to rapidly increase your productivity?
We are not born knowing a lot of things. We are merely born with curiosity and our choice is whether to risk and follow it or shut it down. Most of us do a combination of both. High performers follow their curiosity and are voracious learners. A high performer knows to be good at anything, including business, we always acquire new knowledge and skills.
You can learn by scouring books and watching techniques online or invest in a more rapid curve. Here are some examples of skills that rapidly speed up your productivity:
- Knowing how to properly launch a new product or program.
- Understanding how to use technology to grow your reach, list, page and ultimately get in front of more people.
- Learning to deliver outstanding presentations that impact your audience.
- Using new apps to create process shortcuts.
- Learning how to empower your people to improve their own performance.
Practice everyday
How often do you give up when you don’t get how to do something right away?
Confidence is essential for consistent success. It comes from a good attitude and simply by getting good at doing specific tasks. The more we do anything, the easier it becomes. This is true for healthy habits and skill development.
Ability centre’s around practice. If you thought it was talent, recognize that practice creates talent.
Do things you need to learn every day. Don’t do them all at once. Set an intention for something you need to learn and practice everyday until you increase competency or for some things every week:
- To become a good writer write everyday, put out content every week.
- To become a good speaker, practice speaking every day.
- To become good at connected and sales, make a phone call every day. To embody health and wellness, move intentionally and eat well, every day.
It doesn’t matter what you need to develop, practice will change who you become.
High performance is simply a combination of passion (to get your message out), a shift in mindset (to stretch to your greatness) and a few great habits (discipline to create and maintain it). It comes down to a choice.
This may not be brand new information for you.
It’s about how you put it all together and having the belief that following these strategies will change your life.
Which pill will you choose?
