Improving my relationship with money to earn what I need for my balanced life
Welcome to Money Month! Throughout February we’re going to be talking about some of the “softer” skills around money. I thought it would be helpful to dive into our expectations around money, our relationships with it, and a few practical tips for managing it. This won’t be a super accounting-focused month, but it will require you to be a little uncomfortable - I know that examining our thoughts and practices around money can feel awkward.
I wanted to kick things off by telling you a bit more about my own relationship with money. I believe that our relationship with money is a really insightful way to examine our relationship with ourselves. Like most people, my beliefs around money stem from both how I grew up as well as the values I’ve developed as an adult.
I haven’t ever done any money mindset work, but I know that we carry our relationship with money wherever we go. That’s why it’s so useful to understand what about money really drives us - the money itself, the freedom we can create… maybe money doesn’t really motivate you at all. Whatever it is, it’s useful to know. That way you can build your business around that motivation and create whatever level of financial security you personally want and need.
In this episode, I’ll tell you about how my relationship with money has evolved and how I’ve recently shifted my mindset about my income. I will also talk a bit about why I find impact more motivating than monetary rewards, and how I’ve integrated that personality trait into the way I do my work. I’ll wrap up by sharing some questions you can ask yourself about money, including how much of it you need to feel free and stable.
We’ve got some awesome interviews lined up for Money Month, too, so be sure to subscribe so you get those as soon as they drop.

- Why freedom and money are so intertwined for most of us.
