Getting to the root of our mindset blocks, why they exist and what it takes to move beyond them
Alright everyone - I’m doing something a little different in this solo episode, but I think this is a super interesting and necessary conversation to have. I want to talk a bit about mindset and really dive deep with this idea, because I feel like it’s something that is thrown around a lot but is often really vague and hard to connect with.
I was really resistant to the concept of “mindset blocks” until I found a way to connect with it more deeply. For me, that connection came through the lens of psychology - I’m super interested in that field, so this approach allowed me to understand how mindset connects with childhood experiences and lessons of early adulthood that still shape how I think and do business today.
I start off this episode talking about a definition of “mindset” that I’ve found more useful and why the difference between growth and fixed mindsets has been especially enlightening for me. I then talk through some of my own historical mindset blocks like wanting to be thought of as smart, avoiding challenges out of a fear of failure, and why effort is the only real path to mastery.
Toward the end of the episode I pivot and talk a bit about how I think some of these mindset blocks are related to our current culture of hyper-focus on the self, striving and success. Like I said, this episode is a bit different - but I think that these self-development concepts are really useful to work through if we want to put our best foot forward in the world and in our businesses.

- Why I think we are surrounded by the idea that things should be “easy” and that we should hide our failures and mistakes.
- How these mindset issues and “fixed mindsets” are related to what I think is a culture of striving and narcissism.
