How many times do you catch yourself thinking about what you aren’t doing instead of what you are doing or not doing in the present moment or now?
Now isn’t a new concept but the way I am using it is new to me. I have spent so much of my past multi-tasking by thinking of something I am not working on and memorizing all of the details about what I need to do. I spent so much time on details of a future event (that often never happened) and a lot less time on what was actually going on around me.
Motherhood is shifting this for me. I have this beautiful wee one who’s needs are changing daily and who still relies on me to understand his needs. My trusty techniques of anticipating and planning are not foolproof anymore. I have to stay present and mindful to pick up on his subtle clues. My day goes smoother when I don’t fight the flow. More and more often these days I follow it.
Doesn’t that sound delicious?
Following the flow
Unconsciously, I have been bringing this approach into my business this summer. I have been enjoying every moment with my clients – helping them become more capable of creating their dream business.
It’s rewarding time for me to spend time with people who I deeply care about that also counter-balances my busy at home life. There is only so much fighting the flow that I can do before I begin to drive myself crazy.
I have let go of some of the time-consuming activities that weren’t seeing any short-term results, such as social media, packing in too many networking events in Vancouver, etc. and have been focused on deep service with my clients, meaningful time with colleagues who inspire me, my own brand, messaging and business vision & purpose and getting to know more people locally. It’s quite rewarding not pulling myself in too many different directions, working very part-time, benefitting from great connections and earning what I need.
And all that is folks is The art of (my) just now. Uncomplicated and simple.
