Why you might be resisting growing your business

Three ways you might be resisting growth

I am scaling my business this year and I want to invite you to take this journey with me. In this video I thought it was important first to talk about why you might be resisting growth.

The benefits of of growth go way beyond the extrinsic benefits of great pay, security and lifestyle desires. What I find that as soon as I began getting my external needs met I quickly go to a place of wanting to grow for the intrinsic value I experience – creating impact, delivering value, contributing to people who need my help.

Growth just amplifies your voice and helps you get in front of people who need to hear it.

It allows others to join in and speak your message and your language – reminding them and you that you aren’t alone.

Watch now:

You are attached to money now

So many people are too attached to the money they are earning now that they won’t risk slowing that down, outsourcing it or turning it away so they can earn later. This is small picture thinking and means that you can never get out of the cycle of cramming in client work when it’s here. Investing in a growth strategy allows you to earn later, on your terms. Resist the urge to earn as much as you can now if it means not being able to invest in scaling later.

There is too much to learn

This one is a huge challenge for me. There is simply just too much to learn. I have felt overwhelmed and stuck often by not knowing how to use this technology or that app. All we can do is start with each small step or hire out the things we have limited skills in to do some of that work and shorten that learning curve.

Try not to be daunted. Look at the things you’ve learned in your life. High performers learn what they need to learn – they start aren’t smarter or luckier or more talented, just eager to understand the things that will get them ahead.

You are afraid to fail

Let’s face it this is the fear that trumps most fears. I have never met a single entrepreneur who wasn’t afraid that the campaign they launched would flop, no one would show up for their webinar or event, or engage with their content. It’s a universal fear.

What’s the solution to all of this. It’s simple take the leap. No successful business owner got anywhere really exciting and rewarding without jumping through the blocks and fear. I’m not saying you don’t do your research, do your prep work or do it alone but take steps to start with the one thing you need most help.

What really helped me was feeling successful before I was successful. Stepping into a place of service and purpose and commitment to doing what I do helped me not to obsess about all of the ego-related stuff. That didn’t motivate me. It felt icky. Feeling like I was doing what I meant to do did motivate me to keep going.

I wrote about this in my book Soul Strategy. It describes the mindset shift that needed to occur first.

Be okay with your fear, step into your purpose and live a fuller more enriched life with that includes sharing your wisdom, insights and creativity with the people who need to hear it. And scale your business!
